Kristen Stewart Works Around Cannes Dress Code in Sheer Chanel

Kristen Stewart attended the Full Phil photo call at Cannes in a sheer Chanel haute couture skirt suit that cleverly sidestepped the festival's strict dress code.

The Chanel ambassador showed up to Cannes in a sheer ensemble that technically followed the festival’s no-naked-dress rule. Technically.

Kristen Stewart attended the Full Phil photo call at the Cannes Film Festival on May 16 wearing a sheer, tweed-inspired skirt suit from Chanel‘s spring 2026 haute couture collection. The look appeared to violate the festival’s well-publicized dress code banning naked or fully sheer pieces. Stewart, a longtime Chanel ambassador, had an answer for that.

Beneath the see-through ensemble, she wore a delicate pink halter top with purple lace trim and matching pink shorts, creating what InStyle described as the illusion of a sheer look while technically meeting the code’s requirements. The outfit included a sheer collared top with a plunging neckline, a dark gray midi skirt with fringe detail and pearlescent buttons, and square pockets throughout.

The accessories made the outfit a conversation on their own. Stewart paired the Chanel couture with vintage Nike saddle shoes in black and white and a Chanel Lune ring with a diamond-encrusted star design. It is the kind of combination that generates headlines specifically because it shouldn’t work and does.

Stewart has a history of pushing back against Cannes dress code expectations. The festival has strict protocols around attire, which has made it a consistent backdrop for the kind of fashion friction that Stewart seems entirely unbothered by.
