TikTok star Gabbie Gonzalez is set to be arraigned Tuesday in Los Angeles in a conspiracy to murder singer Jack Avery, the father of her 7-year-old daughter.
Gabbie Gonzalez, a TikTok influencer with a sizable lifestyle and motherhood following, will be arraigned Tuesday in Los Angeles County on a charge of conspiracy to commit murder. The intended target, per investigators, was the father of her child: Jack Avery, formerly of the boy band Why Don’t We.
Her father, Francisco Gonzalez, was arrested Monday in Florida and booked on the same charge. He has not yet been extradited to Los Angeles and remains behind bars in Florida pending transfer.
The case grew out of a long-running custody fight over the couple’s seven-year-old daughter, Lavender. TMZ, which broke the alleged plot’s details from law enforcement sources, reports that the elder Gonzalez told a witness it would simply be cheaper if Avery were dead than to keep paying lawyers.
Detectives traced the conspiracy back to 2021. The L.A. County Sheriff’s Department alleges Francisco initially set up an operation to track and photograph Avery at his home in Hawaii. The aim, prosecutors say, was to capture compromising footage of Avery smoking and drinking that could be used against him in the custody dispute.
That phase didn’t deliver. Investigators say one of the family’s messages contained the line “Call Barca … never too early,” in apparent reference to a man named Dustin Barca, whom Gabbie and a friend, Kai Cordrey, allegedly tried to recruit to threaten Avery. A witness told the sheriff’s department that Francisco wired $10,000 to Cordrey on April 26, 2021, labeled as web-development payments. Cordrey, by his own later account, performed no web work.
From there, the alleged plan escalated. A federal agent eventually posed as a hitman and got Francisco on the phone. During that recorded call, detectives say, the elder Gonzalez confirmed prior payments and discussed the target.
Gabbie Gonzalez was arrested last week in Humboldt County, California, as she attempted to board a flight. She was transferred to L.A. County on Monday and is being held without bail.
Avery, who lives in Hawaii, has not publicly commented on the arrest. He is a former member of the boy band Why Don’t We.
Indian outlet Pop Rant tracked the initial wave of fan reactions across X and TikTok, with much of the disbelief centered on the seven-year duration of the alleged scheme.
The TMZ post on Facebook drew quick pickup across celebrity tabloid feeds overnight, with the story moving from law enforcement leak to trending topic in a matter of hours.
Her arraignment is Tuesday. Her father’s court date in Florida has not yet been scheduled.
