Prime Video’s hockey-romance Off Campus reached 36 million viewers in 12 days, the streamer’s No. 3 biggest series debut behind Rings of Power and Fallout.
Off Campus, the college-set hockey romance Prime Video premiered May 13, has reached 36 million viewers worldwide in its first 12 days, the streamer announced. The number ranks the series as the third-biggest debut season in Prime Video history, behind only The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power and Fallout.
The performance leans demographic. Among women 18 to 34, Off Campus is Prime Video’s most-watched debut season ever, the company said.
The series is based on Elle Kennedy‘s five-book Off Campus novel series, with creator Louisa Levy adapting and co-showrunning alongside Gina Fattore. The Hollywood Reporter’s breakdown of the viewership numbers and the demographic lean includes a statement from Peter Friedlander, head of global TV at Amazon MGM Studios, who framed the launch around the Obsession is in session marketing tag the platform has built around its YA slate.
The plot is engineered for the audience. Introverted music major Hannah (Ella Bright) and Briar University hockey star Garrett (Belmont Cameli) agree to fake a relationship before the obvious happens. Variety’s writeup of the rating, including the platform’s metrics caveats notes that Amazon does not publicly define what counts as a viewer, meaning the 36 million includes anyone who watched any portion of the season.
The show was renewed before it aired. Prime Video greenlit Season 2 in February 2026, months before the May 13 release date. Filming on the new season is expected to start shortly, with India Fowler joining as Grace Ivers and Phillipa Soo taking a recurring role as Scarlett.
Critical reception has been positive. ScreenRant’s summary of the show’s 93 percent Rotten Tomatoes critics score and the early review consensus describes a Bridgerton-esque ensemble approach to the romance source material, with reviewers praising the chemistry between Bright and Cameli alongside a wider cast of hockey teammates and their love interests.
The hockey players around Garrett each get their own arcs. Dean (Stephen Thomas Kalyn), Logan (Antonio Cipriano), and Tucker (Jalen Thomas Brooks) all carry parallel storylines through Season 1, with Mika Abdalla joining as Dean’s partner Allie. Steve Howey and Josh Heuston round out the cast.
The renewal positions Off Campus as Amazon’s next YA tentpole. The Summer I Turned Pretty wrapped earlier this year as a hit. Season 3 reached 70 million viewers in 70 days, a 65 percent jump from Season 2, and Off Campus is being slotted to inherit that audience.
The broader hockey-romance moment is its own context. HBO Max and Crave’s Heated Rivalry, a hockey series in the same demographic territory, debuted to strong numbers earlier this year. The genre, long underserved on premium streaming, is suddenly the platform-wars battleground for women 18 to 34.
Off Campus’s full eight-episode first season is streaming now on Prime Video. The Season 2 production timeline has not been publicly announced.
The Elle Kennedy book series, on which the show is based, includes five Off Campus novels plus the Briar U and Campus Diaries spinoffs (four books each). The adaptation has enough material to run several more seasons.
The 36 million number is the headline. Whatever Prime Video means by it.
